'Why have you not introduced the new 2009 QCF iTQ units yet?'
Jim, Durham.

e-skills only  produced this new iTQ  framework earlier this year and awarding bodies are still really trying to get their head round it. There is a 12 month transition period where candidates can still be registered on the original iTQ. We recommend sticking with the original iTQ until things get sorted out a bit better.

'Is there any clarification available on what evidence is required for the mandatory unit 'Make Selective Use of IT'
Dawn, Stoke.

e-skills issued an update on this on 1st February 2007. It attempts to clarify 'workplace tasks' and how candidates not in employment can still complete relevant tasks.    Click here to download.

Plus: eportfolio2006 v2 contains full guidance and necessary templates for the mandatory unit

'Are all Witnesses classed as Expert Witnesses?'
Geoff, Birmingham.
Expert Witnesses can be drawn from a wide range of people who can attest to performance in the workplace. Each awarding body will have guidance
on this. OCR guidance is - Expert witnesses must:
* have a minimum of 2 years supervisory, managerial or training experience in the units for which they are providing evidence;
* demonstrate a working knowledge of the National Occupational Standards units they are attesting to;
*demonstrate clear evidence of appropriate continuous professional development.
In addition it would be desirable for the Expert Witness to hold or be working towards an appropriate unit of competence in the assessment of workplace performance.
Normally best to get any Expert Witnesses you wish to use agreed with your E.V.

The above criteria do not apply to normal Witnesses. A Witness can be anyone that can testify to a candidate's work eg. line manager.

'Can I use the tasks I have already completed in other units for the mandatory unit?'
Eileen, Durham.

Yes, provided they are 'real tasks' and are at the same level as the mandatory unit. Simulated tasks are not allowed so always best to do 'real' tasks.
Check exact requirements with your awarding body via you assessor.

'What makes a Level 2 Task comprehensive?'
Jim, Bolton.
There is some guidance provided on this by awarding bodies and it should be in the candidate handbook. The guidance is based on quantity and content eg. for Wordprocessing the typical task size is 2 pages of A4.
We think that the best way to determine if a Task is 'comprehensive' is to ask yourself the question "Does this Task include a majority of the required Level 2 Skills in this Unit?"
If it does then it is likely to 'comprehensive'.
This method can also be used at Levels 1 and 3.
